Dutch Reformed Church Galle - The Dutch Reformed Church, located in the historic center of the port city of Galle, near the fort, on Church Street. Dutch Reformed Church Galle is the island's oldest Protestant church. The church was built in 1640 at the highest point of the city - at an altitude of twelve meters above sea level. Money for the construction of this church was donated by a Dutch officer in thanksgiving for the birth of his daughter, whom he had been waiting for many years. The church underwent various changes during the British period. In 1830, a stained-glass window was built in the western facade of the church, and at the beginning of the 20th century a small organ was placed in the south wing, which still touches the hearts of the audience. The floor inside the church is paved with tombstones, under which lie the relics of prominent figures of the Dutch family, who arrived in Sri Lanka in those distant times and forever remained here. On the walls of the church are installed commemorative tablets carved in stone. On the territory of the Dutch Reformed Church there are tombstones with the names of the deceased. In the recesses on the ground you can see the steps to the doors leading to the mysterious and mysterious cellars, which conceal a lot of interesting things. The cellars have a vast territory under the church itself and underground passages leading to the old buildings of the city of Halle and to the Fort. Now the basements are being restored and it is planned to open them for visitors in the near future. Thanks to the restoration program carried out here, the church and its territory are now in excellent condition.
