Established in 1891, these Roseau Botanical Gardens also contain a bird cage with Sisserou parrots, as well as the famous "crushed bus" - the victim of the devastating Hurricane David. The Botanical Gardens survived several tropical storms and hurricanes, including Hurricane David in 1979, which for eight hours turned magnificent land into a graveyard of old cars, felled and torn trees and debris. Evidence of the destructive power of Hurricane David can still be seen from the remains of a large bus lying under the crown of a massive Baobab. Despite all the troubles, the Roseau Botanical Gardens are still open to tourists and visitors. This place is ideal for cricket matches, national parades, as well as cultural and religious celebrations and open-air ceremonies. The beauty and tranquility of the gardens make them one of the gems of the Caribbean.
