Borbudur
Indonesia, Java Island

The main monuments of Indonesian antiquity are preserved mainly on the island of Java. These are numerous Hindu and Buddhist temples, which in Indonesia are called chandi. The most grandiose of them is considered to be Chandi Borobudur, located about an hour from Yogyakarta. It is no accident that in the world this temple is called the eighth wonder of the world, and a symphony of stone, and a hymn to the Buddha. The builders of the giant Borobudur temple complex tried to reproduce on the land of Java Island the legendary Mount Meru from ancient Indian mythology, its huge golden peak on which the entire universe rests. It is believed that the result was the largest monument in the Southern Hemisphere. Borobudur with all the variety of its spiky towers, images and statues of Buddha seems to be a fantastic work even now, after 12 centuries. If you look from a height, then Borobudur (the name means: many Buddhas) appears in the form of a huge geometric sign and a sacred symbol of the mandola, that is, a diagram of the universe in which Heaven and Earth are united. The complex was built on a hill and around a hill, so in shape it is a step pyramid. It reaches a height of 34 meters and, according to many estimates, consists of more than 55,000 cubic meters of stone. Below are five square terraces in plan view, symbolizing the world of the Earth. Above them are three circular upper terraces representing the world of the Spirit. Pilgrims slowly rise from the earthly sphere to the spiritual. Settling down on cool stones, people involuntarily forget about everyday worries and plunge into themselves. Silence and peace. If they can dream of it, then only on the terraces of Borobudur - the stone giant, forever frozen. Of course, in order to absorb the energy of pacification emanating from the temple, you need to tune yourself in an appropriate way. However, it was noticed that even the most energetic visitors gradually calmed down on the ancient plates, and silence reigned. She is shrouded in stone Buddha, frozen in centuries and staring at all four corners of the world.
