Amalienborg Palace
Denmark, Copenhagen

The Amalienborg Palace Complex is the official residence of the Danish monarchs since February 1794, after the fire that happened in the previous residence - Kristiansborg.
Amalienborg - the most visited castle in the country, includes four almost identical buildings surrounding an octagonal square, in the center of which there is a majestic monument to the founder of Amalienborg king Frederick V. Equestrian sculpture of Jacques Francois Sali is considered one of the most beautiful and unique in the world, the sculptor above its creation worked for about 20 years.
Originally, the summer castle of Sophie Amalienborg was built for the Queen Sophia Amalia in the Italian style at the beginning of the eighteenth century, but during one of the court theatrical productions there was a major fire that completely destroyed the building. They did not begin to restore the palace, and in its place four castles in the Rocco style were built, according to the project of the court architect Nikolai Yeitved. The palaces are named after the four courtiers - the highest nobility. Christian IX Mansion or Schack - Queen's Residence, Christian VIII Mansion or Levetsau - Heir to the Throne Residence, Christian VII or Moltke Mansion and Frederick VIII Mansion or Wrockdorf. In one of them, lush balls, gala receptions and banquets are still held. Other partially open museums are located where you can learn about the history of Amalienborg and the life of Danish monarchs and see the royal rooms with furniture, items of clothing and decor that have been preserved since ancient times. During World War II, a tunnel was dug under two buildings of the palace complex, which made it possible to avoid being taken hostage by members of the royal family.
Every day at noon on the Amalienborg Square, a march of the Royal Guards and a solemn change of the guard take place. Usually the soldiers are dressed in a dark blue uniform, but if you are lucky enough to be in Amalienborg on April 16 - the birthday of the current Queen Margrethe - you will see the parade uniform of the guards: bright blue trousers, red jackets and tall bear caps.
