This is an art museum in Munich, the focus of which is European fine art of the 18-19th centuries. The New Pinakothek, together with the Old Pinakothek, form the Munich Arts Square. The museum was founded by King Ludwig I of Bavaria in 1853. Since then, the royal collection of contemporary art has been constantly growing. The museum holds more than 3,000 paintings by European artists, from classicism to art nouveau, of which about 400 paintings and 50 sculptures are exhibited to the general public. Here are the works of Thomas Gainsborough, Francisco de Goya, Jacques Louis David, Edward Manet, Van Gogh, Claude Monet and many others. Among the more popular German artists are works by Wilhelm Label, Gustav Klimt, Adolf Menzel, you will also find here paintings by other, less well-known artists.
