Villa Engelhardt is an extremely representative example of early 20th century villa architecture in Viljandi. From the street side, the building looks urban and businesslike, and from the courtyard side a picturesque lake landscape opens up.
The architect of this villa, built as a home for the mayor of the city, Otto von Engelhardt, was his brother Rudolf-Moritz von Engelhardt. The building, whose construction was completed after 1906, has retained its original Heimat appearance to this day. The façade is enlivened by imitation half-timbering.
After the Engelhardts moved to Germany, the building had many owners. One of the last was Doctor of Medical Sciences Mats Nyges.
