Wilpattu National Park is located on the island of Sri Lanka. The presence of natural lakes, ponds and indentations bordered by sand and filled with rainwater gives unique features to this park. It is located in the northwestern lowlands - one of the most arid regions of Sri Lanka. The park covers an area of 131, 693 hectares, and its height above sea level varies from 0 to 152 meters. About sixty lakes and reservoirs are scattered throughout its territory. Wilpattu is the largest and one of the oldest national parks in Sri Lanka, and the park is also famous worldwide for its leopard population. The park is home to a huge number of birds, 31 species of animals such as elephant, bear, leopard, buffalo, deer, mongoose, etc., as well as a wide variety of reptiles and flora.
