The Estonian Museum of Theatre and Music is a national institution dedicated to preserving, researching, and presenting Estonia's rich performing arts heritage. It was founded in 1934, making it one of the oldest cultural history museums in the country. The museum's collection comprises over 700,000 items, including manuscripts, sheet music, photographs, set and costume designs, programs, posters, musical instruments, and personal archives of prominent Estonian composers, musicians, and theatre figures. A significant part of the collection is the archive of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. The museum is housed in a historic building known as the Glehn Tenement House, located in Tallinn's Old Town. Its mission extends beyond collection management to include organizing exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and educational programs for the public. The museum also maintains a specialized library and an extensive sound archive, serving as a vital research center for scholars and enthusiasts of Estonian theatre and music history.
