Fuerteventura Botanical Garden is located in the Oasis Park Fuerteventura Zoological Park, located on Fuerteventura Island, which is part of the Canary Islands. The first work on the creation of the Botanical Garden was started in 1998 with the planting of shrubs, cacti, succulents and exotic plants that had not previously grown in this territory. To create optimal conditions for plants, special horticulture methods are applied, and a modern irrigation system is being built. In the nursery of the Botanical Garden there are many flowering plants: orchids, gerberas, roses, gardenias, hydrangeas, violets and cyclamens. Visitors can not only admire the exotic flowers, but also purchase seeds and seedlings, get advice on their cultivation and breeding. A special place is occupied by the Cactus Garden and one of the largest collections of succulents in the world. 28,000 plant species are collected here, of which about 2500 are cacti. There are gigantic specimens up to four meters high, and there are tiny mini-cacti. Birds live freely in the garden. A couple of Guirres vultures live near the territory of the Botanical Garden. This is a rare type of small vultures, which the park workers seek to protect from complete extinction. The Botanical Garden has twelve endemic species that live only on the island of Fuerteventura and are on the verge of extinction. The garden collection is constantly updated with new types of plants. As part of environmental educational programs, employees conduct lectures, seminars and excursions for adults and schoolchildren.
