The Tara River Canyon is the first in Europe in depth (1.3 km) and the second in the world, after the American Grand Canyon (1.8 km).
Called the "Tear of Europe", the Tara River, which formed it, has unique natural wealth! Here you can see picturesque islands, secret bays hidden between rocky labyrinths overgrown with dense vegetation, malachite waterfalls of tributaries, seething riffles and deep grottoes overgrown with moss!
Rafting is very popular here, which allows you to see all this beauty in full. Among professionals, rafting on the Tara River is considered the most dangerous in the whole of Europe, but also the most interesting. The difficulty level is from level 3 to 5, alternating throughout the year. Increasing at the beginning of the year, when it reaches its maximum (March - April) due to a very high water level, then it falls in proportion to the drop in water level by the end of summer.
The water of the river is unusually bright turquoise and so cold that even in the hottest summer days its temperature barely reaches + 12 ° C.
"Crna Poda" - relict forest of black pines in the canyon. It is considered the most interesting natural attraction of the area. Many trees have been growing in this forest for over 400 years. And more than 80 large caves were discovered in the canyon, most of which are still under study.
A bit about the road. It is interesting. From time to time, sheer cliffs move so that the sky is not visible, and the seething Tara, then appears directly next to the road, or else it dives into dense vegetation and makes noise somewhere far below. The highway itself is narrow, with a slightly tattered coating, in some places traces of fresh repairs are visible, which spoils the impression a little, but in general it is more than compensated by the stunning beauty of the surrounding area. In small pockets you can make short stops - there is simply no strength to drive past! I want to stand, admire one more and another breathtaking view, slowly making a couple of frames for memory!
