Batu Cave
Malaysia, Ampang (Kuala Lumpur)

Batu Caves Caves are among the natural attractions of Malaysia. They are located 13 km north of Kuala Lumpur, where the temple of the Tamil god Subramanian is located. These caves, formed about 400 million years ago in limestone rocks, were accidentally discovered in 1878 by the American naturalist William Hornadey. In late January - early February, Indians celebrate the Taipusam festival here - a magnificent and eerie cleansing ceremony held in honor of the god Murugan.
Believers, reading prayers, bring a statue of their deity into a special Temple cave, for which they need to climb the 272 steps of the stairs. Overwhelmed by religious ecstasy, the participants in the ceremony, who vowed to God, carry Kawadi. This is an exquisitely decorated wooden frame, which is attached to the body of the carrier with a variety of sharp knitting needles and hooks. The procession, encouraged by the continuous drumming and screaming, makes a strong impression.
