Dubai Zoo is the oldest zoo in the Arabian Peninsula, established in 1967.
Despite its modest size (now the zoo covers an area of about 2 hectares), it contains about one and a half thousand animals and birds, including African lions and giraffes, Bengal tigers. In total, the zoo features 9 species of large feline and 7 species of primates.
At one time, the Dubai Zoo was recognized as the best menagerie in the Middle East.
