Vintgar Canyon is located right next to the village of Gory, 4 km northwest of Lake Bled. In 1891, it was opened by the mayor of the village, Gori Jakob Zhumer, together with the cartographer and photographer Benedict Lergetporer. They went on an exploratory journey through almost impassable sections. Their bullets lay from the village of Nizhny Gory to the village of Bleyskaya Dobrava. On the way, they discovered many amazing natural attractions and beauties and therefore decided to organize a construction committee and make it possible to pass through the canyon.
For this, the canyon was adapted for excursions, as a result of which it became a welcome place for visiting guests who rested on Lake Bled.
The official opening of the Vintgar Canyon took place on August 26, 1893. Its length is 1.6 km, and its path runs between the high rocky mountains of Homa and Borst.
The real decoration of the canyon is the Radovna River, waterfalls, cycles and steep
rapids on this river. The road through the canyon runs along wooden platforms and the so-called
Zhumrovym galleries and ends on a bridge over the beautiful and powerful 16 meter river waterfall Shum. Due to its unique beauty, Vintgar Canyon is one of the most amazing tourist destinations.
sights of Slovenia, and the number of tourists visiting the waterfall is constantly increasing every year. By visiting the canyon, you will get a pleasant experience of the unique beauty of nature, from the so-called
a viewing walkway running past Mount Homa to the Church of St. Katarina (historic church and wonderful landscapes).
At the entrance to the canyon and near the Shum waterfall, you can eat in the cafe.
The Gorye village tourism community offers you an excursion along convenient walking paths, bridges and galleries along the murmuring river, through
the picturesque Vintgar Canyon, whose length is 1600 m, and which ends with a 16 meter waterfall. From the gorge you can return by
the same path or past the church of St. Katarina, from where it opens
a unique view of the Karavanka mountain range, the Valley, Lake Bled and the surrounding outskirts, as well as Mount Triglav.
