One of the famous attractions of the smallest Arab state of Bahrain is a lone acacia tree. Arabs call it Shajarat al-Hayyat, which means “Tree of Life”. The tree is one of the most intriguing sights not only of Bahrain, but of the whole Earth. It has been growing for 400 years in the desert, on a hill about 10 meters high (the highest point in Bahrain), where there are no surface or ground water sources. Among the locals, the secret of his survival in the desert made the tree a legend. Shajarat al-Khayyat is considered by many to be the only surviving tree of the Gardens of Eden, which, according to biblical tradition, was located in Bahrain. There are several versions of the viability of a miracle tree. According to one of them, the roots of a tree are fed by an underground river, but no one has yet managed to find it. According to another version, special bacteria nourish the tree with moisture extracted from sand. According to the third - the roots of the tree go very deep under the ground, where they reach unknown sources of water, but so far it has not been possible to prove any version. According to local Bedouins, the mystical God Enki blessed the tree for life. But all these are versions and assumptions. No clue, but the tree continues to grow in the absence of any chance of survival. For the people of Bahrain, this tree, shrouded in mystery, personifies life itself. Many of them want to feel involved in this mystery and touch the Tree of Life as a symbol of survival and victory over circumstances.
