The ruins of a Roman villa are located on the island of Veliki Brijuni, on the shores of Verig Bay. The construction of the villa began in the 1st century BC. It was a complex of buildings located in different parts of the bay. On the north side of Verigi were all outbuildings, a palestra, baths and a pond. At the end of the bay there were several temples: one was dedicated to the god Neptune, the second to the goddess of love and beauty Venus, the third to the capitol triad: Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. All the buildings of the complex were connected into a single whole through open and closed galleries. From the sea side along all the galleries there was an embankment of large stone blocks, currently it is under water, at a depth of one meter. The entrance to the bay was regulated by a chain - a link connecting the opposite banks.
