The sculpture of the Spider Woman Maman is perhaps one of the main attractions of Tokyo. Designed by the famous sculptor Louise Bourgeois, a ten-meter spider was installed in one of the central areas of Tokyo - Roppongi in 2002. The author of the work combined in her work elements of many areas of contemporary art - abstract art, cubism, futurism, surrealism and constructivism. According to one version, the spider symbolizes the numerous international ties that Japan has established with different cities in the world. But, according to the author, the meaning of the spider’s sculpture is somewhat different and deeper. The fact is that Louise was very friendly with her mother, who was a weaver. And in gratitude for motherly care, she created a bronze-steel spider, which is a symbol of motherly love. The spider carefully carries a spider bag with a clutch of 26 unhacked eggs. Spider Sculpture Maman is not the only sculpture of a spider in Tokyo. Here you can see other spiders, smaller in size. The local population affectionately calls them "Maman children."
