Millesgården Park Museum is located in eastern Sweden, on the territory of Lidingö, 7 km from Stockholm. In 1906, the sculptor Karl Milles acquired a plot of land on the Kherserud rock to build a house with an art workshop for himself and his wife, the artist Olga Milles. First, the house and workshop were built by the architect Karl Bengtsson, later the work was led by the sculptor's brother, the architect Evert Milles. After visiting the atelier Médon of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin, Carl Milles came up with the idea of creating a sculpture park on the territory of his estate. Gradually, neighboring land plots were acquired, the rocky landscape was transformed into large terraces. On them, among the pines and birches, Carl Milles installed sculptures and columns. New buildings, fountains, walls and stairs were built. In 1931, the Milles couple left for the USA, and in 1936 Karl and Olga Milles presented Millesgarden to the Swedish people. After returning to their homeland in 1950, the sculptor in the park installed copyright copies of his custom-made works, the originals of which are in many countries of the world. Today, Millesgarden consists of several sections. The heart of the museum is the house of Karl and Olga Milles with workshops and collections of works, including one of Sweden’s most prominent antique collections. In the park, from the terraces of which there is a beautiful view of the Gulf of Vertan, there are sculptures of Carl Milles, several fountains and a large garden. The Exhibition Hall houses contemporary art exhibitions and a museum boutique. Anna's House - a new building, built in 1999 by architect Johan Celsing, is an art museum, it hosts exhibitions of Swedish and foreign artists and sculptors. In the former gardener's house, there is the Pink Terrace bistro, and the Pink House is nearby. Visitors to the park-museum, sharing their impressions, say that Millesgarden is a magical place where nature and art meet, and soaring sculptures mounted on high pedestals fill the park with fairy tales and myths.
