Entering the unlit space of the room, visitors hear the sounds of falling rain and intuitively try to hide from it. But they won’t get wet: special sensors react to every movement of a person and stop the water in the place where he finds himself. 1200 liters of clean water are constantly circulating in the rain room.
Random International was founded in 2005. This London studio carries out bold experiments and various projects in the field of contemporary art. Their work - sculpture, performance and large-scale architectural installations - reflects the relationship between man and machine and interacts with the audience.
The Sharjah Art Foundation strongly supports and celebrates contemporary art. The Foundation hosts the Sharjah Biennale, annual March meetings, year-round exhibitions, educational and outreach programs, provides grants and publishes interesting materials, thereby promoting universal understanding of the transformative role of art.
The building for the Rain Room installation in Sharjah was designed by the Sharjah Art Foundation and United Arab Emirates design studio SpaceContinuum in collaboration with Sharjah architecture firm Shape Architecture Practice + Research.
