Ang Thong Marine National Park

Ang Thong Marine National Park is located in Thailand, in the province of Surat Thani, is an archipelago consisting of 42 islands located in the Gulf of Thailand, 28 kilometers northwest of Koh Samui. Angthong Marine Park was established on November 12, 1980, covers an area of 102 square kilometers, of which only 18 square kilometers is land. All islands (with the exception of Ko Paluay) are uninhabited, have various shapes and sizes, and consist of limestone mountains 10 to 400 meters high above sea level. Most of the islands are covered with dense tropical forests, the islands have many underwater caves, grottoes and rocky cliffs, there are lakes, lagoons and sandy beaches. The vegetation is represented by dry evergreen, coastal, limestone and mangrove forests. Dry evergreen forest is found on large islands, coastal - on small areas along the beaches, limestone - on open rocky areas, mangrove - on sandbanks and beaches flooded with water during sea tides. Indian almonds, calophilum, erythrina broadleaf, Asian krinum, dracaena loreri, euphorbia anticorum, rhizophora, and also the endemic species of the anthonghe venus shoe are growing in the park. The islands are inhabited by 16 species of mammals (spectacled tonkotel, Sumatran otter, langur, crab-eating monkey, bats), 54 species of birds (eastern reef heron, Brahmin kite, white-bellied eagle, salangana-algae eater, howling famous edible "swallow-nests" rhinoceros, gray drongo and others), 14 species of reptiles (iguanas, land and sea turtles, snakes and lizards) and 5 species of amphibians. Colonies of corals on the islands are few and limited to a narrow strip in the immediate vicinity of the coast. The inhabitants of the underwater world are several species of corals, algae, butterfly fish, angel fish, parrot fish, stingrays, black-headed shark, mackerel, anchovies, squid, sea bass, crabs, mussels, oysters and gastropod mollusks. Visitors to the park can go diving, snocking, kayaking, go on an excursion around the islands by kayaking or in traditional Thai boats, soak up the beach, visit the Bua Bok Cave Cave, located on Ko Wua Talap Island, climb a steep trail (distance of about 500 meters) to the observation deck, which offers a magnificent view of the islands of the archipelago, visit the island of Ko Mae Ko and see the beautiful Emerald Lake, surrounded on all sides by limestone cliffs and communicating with the sea through a cascade of underwater caves. On the island of Koh Wua Talab is the headquarters of the park, in the territory of which there are 5 bungalows, a campground, a rental kayak and tent, a restaurant and an information center.
