The Khagani Garden, better known as the Molokan Garden, is one of the oldest and most beautiful public places in Baku. Located in the very center of the city, the garden was founded in the 19th century and for a long time served as a place of recreation for the townspeople.
It received its unofficial name - “Molokan Garden” - thanks to the Molokans, a religious group of Russian settlers, who once lived in this area of Baku. Molokans practiced a special form of Christianity and are known for their ascetic life and rejection of church rituals. The garden became a popular place for meetings and walks among representatives of this community, and since then this name has stuck to it.
The park was later renamed in honor of the 12th century Azerbaijani poet Khagani Shirvani, one of the most prominent literary figures in the region. In the center of the garden there is a monument to Khagani, which emphasizes its cultural significance for the Azerbaijani capital.
Today the garden named after Khagani is a quiet and cozy corner in the center of noisy Baku, with beautiful alleys, fountains and benches. It remains a popular walking destination for both locals and tourists. The garden is surrounded by historical buildings and cafes, making it even more attractive to visit.
