Named after the patron saint of Milan, Ambrosius Mediolansky, the Ambrosian Pinacotheca is located in the very center of the city and is one of the most popular museums in Milan. Today, it is the oldest library in Italy. Today Ambrosiana is located on 2 floors in 24 rooms of the palace and is a real treasury for admirers of sculpture and painting. One of the most recent acquisitions of the Pinakothek is a copy of Leonardo’s painting “The Last Supper”, written for the refectory at the convent of Santa Maria del Grazie. The uniqueness of this copy is that it was written even before Napoleon’s army made the stable out of the refectory and makes it possible to see the masterpiece as Leonardo originally wrote it. The Ambrosian Pinacotheca holds the greatest works of painting performed by Botticelli, Titian, Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio, Raphael and other outstanding masters of the Middle Ages. Among the recognized masterpieces of world art in the Pinakothek, you can see the painting by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio “Fruit Basket”, “Bouquet” by Jan Brueghel, “The Holy Family with St. Anna and John the Baptist” by Bernardino Luini, “Musician” by Leonardo da Vinci, “Woman's Portrait” Ambrogio de Predisa, The Athenian School by Raphael. All these paintings are masterpieces of world art, and it is simply impossible to overestimate their importance as a cultural heritage. The museum is quite large and a walk through its halls takes a lot of time.
Convenient location near the main city attractions, as well as the low cost of admission, is an important advantage of the Pinacoteca, allowing lovers of beauty to visit the museum without deviating from the main sightseeing route in the capital of Lombardy.
