Kaydar gate
Republic of Crimea, Orlinoe (Baydar)

There are many picturesque passes in the Crimean mountains, but only one of them is crowned with a gate; this is the Baydarsky pass. On the road leading from the Baidar Valley to Foros, at an altitude of 527 meters above sea level, in 1848, massive and majestic Baidar gates were built by architect Karl Schliemann, whose sole purpose was to enhance the impression of travelers of the panorama of the South Bank and the endless open spaces. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, next to them was a postal station, two hotels and a restaurant. Now, near the gates, there is a very popular restaurant “Shalash”, even presidents have visited it.
