Juliet's house in Verona was built in the 13th century and belonged to the Dal Cappello family, which became the prototype of the Capulet family in the immortal work of William Shakespeare "Romeo and Juliet", their coat of arms in the shape of a marble hat is carved on the arch leading to the courtyard. In 1667, one of the representatives of the Cappello clan sold the house and then changed owners several times. In the XIX century there was an inn. By the beginning of the XX century, the house was completely dilapidated and in 1907 the owners put up for auction. The house was acquired by the municipality of Verona for the construction of a museum dedicated to the Shakespearean play in it, but for a long time the building was in disrepair. Everything changed after the release in 1936 on the world screens of George Cukor's film "Romeo and Juliet", which caused great interest among the audience and attracted a lot of tourists to Verona. In the house of Juliet began active restoration work to give it a romantic look. The facade was decorated with decorative elements, the windows of the second floor were decorated with Gothic trefoils and a balcony was built, from which Juliet allegedly spoke with Romeo. Hundreds of girls, by tradition, go to the balcony of Juliet's house to find their Romeo, and they do not care at all that the balcony was built in our time. The courtyard of the house was also rebuilt, it was given the features of the corresponding scene from the movie of Cucor, a battlement, a column under the balcony were built, and a board with lines of Shakespearean tragedy was placed on the wall of the house. In 1972, a bronze statue of Juliet, made by Verona sculptor Nereo Costantini, was installed in the courtyard. Touching the statue is considered a good omen, they say that rubbing the right breast of the bronze Juliet, you can find your love. From frequent touching the statue was so worn out that the city authorities decided to place it in the museum, and put a copy in the courtyard of Juliet's house. Tourists also leave notes and write declarations of love on the inner walls of the arch leading to the courtyard from the street. For fans of Shakespeare's heroes, mailboxes are installed in the house, correspondence is delivered to the Juliet Club, located a stone's throw from Juliet's house. The house has an exposition dedicated to Romeo and Juliet - paintings, photographs of scenes from the Cucor film and details from the Zeffirelli film "Romeo and Juliet." Annually, on September 16, the museum celebrates Juliet's birthday, and on Valentine's Day on February 14, the authors of the most moving messages to Shakespeare's heroine are honored in Juliet's house.
