The Railway Museum was opened in Warsaw in 1931. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of state and municipal institutions. The museum consists of 26 rooms with a total area of 900 square meters. 450 valuable exhibits were divided into 19 thematic sections, which presented tables, maps, diagrams and photographs. The most valuable exhibits include: a copy of the decree of Emperor Alexander II on the construction of a railway in Warsaw, the first ticket for the Warsaw-Kalisz journey, the Vienna railway schedule of 1845, the secret circular of the Russian Gendarmerie of 1891 banning the use of the Polish language in the Polish Kingdom , an existing model of a steam locomotive, a model of a railway station in Warsaw, a model of one of the largest railway bridges to Europe, located in the city of Yaremche and built by Polish engineer Stanisla th Ravich-Kosinsky, and other relics of great historical value. In the fall of 1938, the collection of the Railway Museum consisted of 4,000 exhibits (including 400 models, 250 tables and diagrams, as well as more than 550 photographs). The collection includes old cars and devices, uniforms, models and models of the park, railway flags, paintings on the railway theme. Museum activities were interrupted due to the outbreak of World War I. After the war, they continued to collect preserved relics and documents confirming the history of the Polish railway. And only on July 1, 1972 the Railway Museum resumed its activities. In 1986, a branch of the museum was established in the city of Sokhachev, which provides information about narrow-gauge rolling stock. The museum library has about 8,000 books. The popularity of the Railway Museum is confirmed by the number of visitors. Now the museum exhibits more than 15,000 exhibits. The museum is one of the largest and most interesting in the world. Currently, the museum building is often used for museum lessons for schoolchildren, film screenings, and lectures for the general public. Directors often use the interior of a former railway station as a film set. The Warsaw Railway Museum is becoming increasingly important among museums and cultural institutions every year.
