Cascade
Armenia, Yerevan

The cascade is a monumental architectural composition that develops A. Tamanyan’s plans related to the creation of Northern Avenue. The project was carried out by architect J. Torosyan, S. Gurzadyan, A. Mkhitaryan and designers E. Hakobyan, B. Geghamyan. The constructions of the cascade are organically connected with a small square located between Moskovyan Street and Mashtots and Baghramyan Avenues. Its horizontal section is Tamanyan street 200m long. - begins at the monument to A. Tamanyan (sculptor A. Hovsepyan, 1974), ends at the Museum of Russian Art and the Big Black Cat by F. Bostero (collection by J. Gafeschyan).
Cascade is a system of step transitions, fountains and flower beds through the slopes of the Kanaker hills, connecting the central part of the city with its northern region. Stairs and escalators allow you to climb the main observation deck of Yerevan. The absolute difference in vertical heights from the first step of the first escalator to the last step of the last is 100m. The length of the entire structure is 500 m. With a width of 50 m.
Crowned with a cascade obelisk, built in 1971. in honor of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Soviet power in Armenia. The obelisk uses Urartian graphic motifs. At its foot, they plan to build the Museum of Modern Art of the American collector Gerald Gafeschyan.
Climbing to the main observation deck of the Cascade, you can continue to walk around the park "Akhtanak". The sculpture "Mother Armenia", located in the park, has another observation deck. It offers a more interesting view of the city and Ararat than from Cascade. This is due to the fact that construction work in Cascade is still ongoing, rather spoiling the view of Yerevan.
