The stingrays began congregating in this area several decades ago when fishermen used to clean fish on the shallow sandy drifts. The stingrays immediately forgot their usual shyness and had a banquet on the intestines of the cleaned fish. Soon the stingrays began to associate the sound of the boat's engine with food.
