Dubai Creek
UAE, Dubai city

Dubai Creek is a natural sea arm, 14 kilometers long, dividing the city of Dubai into two parts - Bur Dubai and Deira. Dubai Creek originally stretched from the Persian Gulf to the Ras Al Khor Nature Reserve (the natural end of the bay), but thanks to the construction of the Dubai Water Canal, its course was extended. Thus, Dubai Creek originates in the Persian Gulf, just east of the sea Port Rashid, and, skirting several areas of Dubai, flows again into the Persian Gulf near the park and Jumeirah Beach. Dubai Creek played a fundamental role in the history of the city of Dubai, because it was on its banks that the first buildings of the world-famous metropolis appeared. Initially these were huts for fishermen and pearl hunters. Over time, thanks to the growth of the region's economy, trading houses, warehouses and shipping companies began to be built here. At the same time, thanks to the favorable geographical position of the natural bay, the role of Dubai Creek as a convenient sea harbor and port increasingly increased. The bay was actively used as a water transport artery, and if initially only small vessels (dhows) and fishing boats (abras) could navigate here, then after work carried out in the second half of the 20th century to expand and deepen the Dubai Creek, the canal became passable for large-tonnage cargo ships and passenger liners. The modernization of the canal entailed a change in the entire infrastructure of the area - fashionable hotels, business centers, shopping centers, golf clubs, elite residential areas and world-famous skyscrapers began to be built on the shores of the bay. The Dubai Creek embankment is reinforced with concrete and landscaped, along its entire length there are many berths and parking for yachts, and the movement of water buses and taxis, ferries and boats is organized along the bay. The banks of Dubai Creek are connected by four road bridges, in addition, the Shindagha tunnel is built under the canal, which connects the city area of Al Shindagha with one of the oldest shopping areas of Al Ras. Now Dubai Creek is not only the largest shopping center in the entire Middle East, but also a tourist attraction visited by millions of tourists from all over the world. The best way to explore Dubai Creek is to cruise around the creek in a traditional wooden abra boat or take a day (or overnight) dhow cruise. During the excursion, tourists can visit the old district of Dubai and visit the famous Golden Souk and Spice Souk, relax in Creekside Park, visit the Ras Al Khor nature reserve, shop in numerous shops or just relax in a cafe on the waterfront with magnificent views of the bay.
