Unique among the Cayman Islands' cornerstone cultural institutions, the museum is housed in the historic Old Courthouse, built in the 1830s. We offer an exceptional audiovisual experience, an interpretive garden, permanent natural and cultural history galleries, and regularly changing exhibitions, openings and special events. We are open to the public six days a week and aim to reach all local children, individuals and families, as well as visitors from overseas. We offer free tours for school groups year-round and are renewing our special evening speaker series on a wide range of cultural and historical topics. We are also promoting a special Looky Ya! celebrating Caymanian traditions in the area around our historic building - these events are growing in entertainment, food, attendance and overall popularity - and we intend to continue to grow and reach all ages of our population. The museum is charged with the collection, research, conservation, care and interpretation of the museum's artifact collection, which currently numbers 9,300 items.
