House-Museum of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum
UAE, Al Shindagha

Saeed Al Maktoum House - in the UAE, Dubai Attractions, Dubai Emirate, UAE
The Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House Museum is located near the mouth of the Creek, on the Shindagha Peninsula in Dubai. The former residence of Sheikh Said and the ruling dynasty of Al Maktoum, has been restored and turned into a museum. The house was built using traditional construction methods - from coral from the bottom of the Gulf, covered with lime and gypsum.
For local residents, the house, built in 1896, has special significance - it was built by the grandfather of the current ruler of Dubai, who lived here until his death in 1958. Many generations of the Maktoum family lived in a house of 30 rooms, respecting Arab traditions. Carefully restored in 1986, the Maktoum family home received the status of a museum. The premises of the house feature exhibitions, each of which tells a different story from Dubai's past. According to Arab tradition, the tour goes from right to left. A certain number of rooms in the right wing are reserved for photo exhibitions of the history of Dubai. Here you can see photographs from different years. Some pictures were taken from an airplane. The museum also has a room dedicated to the marine life of the Gulf. The exhibition, located in the hall to the right of the entrance, tells the history of pearl fishing in this region.
In the Maktum family hall there is an exhibition of family photographs. Many of these photographs depict very vivid scenes from the life of Sheikh Said and his family. The exhibition concludes with photographs of the events of December 2, 1971, the day of the proclamation of the United Arab Emirates.
