Dubai Metro
UAE, Dubai city

The Dubai Metro is the longest fully automated rail system in the world and the first metro in the Gulf region. The opening ceremony of the Dubai metro took place on 09.09.2009 at 09:09, when the “red” line began operating.
Today the Dubai Metro includes two lines - “red” and “green”. Most of the route of both branches passes above the ground at an altitude of 10-15 meters. The average speed of trains (excluding stop time) is 110 km/h.
The design of Dubai Metro stations is associated with elements of the national heritage of both the UAE in general and Dubai in particular. It uses and imitates traditional landscape design and architectural elements of the area, such as narrow streets, alcoves, wind towers and interior arches. To decorate the stations, traditional sand colors and decorative elements such as lanterns, gratings, and jugs were used. The approved design of the stations fully corresponds to the concept of the project, which plays on four elements: earth, water, fire and air. This allows the stations to seamlessly fit into the historical areas of the city, becoming part of the history of Dubai. The external design of the stations also fits into the surrounding environment; they look like sea shells, which indicates the ancient tradition of pearling.
Smoking is prohibited in the Dubai Metro, both in stations and in passages and at bus stops. Various types of drinks and food are also prohibited.
In accordance with the rules, eating and drinking non-alcoholic drinks in the metro is allowed only in specially designated places, including cafes at stations. Carrying alcoholic beverages into the metro is considered an administrative violation, entailing appropriate harsh sanctions.
