The Starchova Goritsa Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery situated on the eastern shore of Lake Skadar in Montenegro, near the town of Virpazar. It is located on the Gorica hill, from which it derives its name. The monastery is dedicated to the Holy Mother of God. Historical records indicate the monastery was founded in the late 14th or early 15th century, with its church being constructed in 1417. It was established by the nobleman Starac (Elder) Milica and his sons, who are depicted in a fresco within the church. The monastery complex includes the Church of the Holy Mother of God, a residential building, and a defensive tower. Throughout its history, the monastery has been a significant spiritual and cultural center for the region. It suffered damage and was plundered on multiple occasions, particularly during the Ottoman period. The monastery was restored in the 19th century and continues to function as an active religious site. It houses a collection of valuable icons and religious artifacts. The monastery is accessible by boat from Virpazar and offers a panoramic view of Lake Skadar and its surrounding natural landscape.
