Dajbabe Monastery
Montenegro, Podgorica

The Dajbabe Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located in the suburbs of Podgorica. It is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. The monastery is uniquely situated within a natural cave system, which forms its primary church. This cave church was consecrated in 1897. The monastery's foundation is associated with the monk Simeon Popović, who had a vision of the Holy Mother and was inspired to establish a place of worship within the cave. The interior of the cave church features a series of frescoes painted directly onto the rock walls, depicting various biblical scenes and saints. These artworks were created in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, contributing to the site's spiritual and cultural significance. The monastery serves as an active religious center and a place of pilgrimage for the Orthodox Christian community. It holds a collection of religious icons and artifacts. The complex is surrounded by a tranquil natural environment, which enhances its contemplative atmosphere.
