Museum The Monument Interpretation Center was opened on January 24, 2013 as a branch of the Warsaw Museum. It is located in the restored basement of a residential building in the historic center of Warsaw's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The creation of the Center was made possible thanks to cooperation with the city of Bergen and funding from the Norwegian financial mechanism. The exposition of the museum "Destruction and restoration of the Old Town" is dedicated to the history of the old center of Warsaw. The exhibition is compiled in chronological order and divided into historical stages. The Center presents photographs, posters, plans and drawings, multimedia presentations and thematic animations that give an idea of the unique character of the Warsaw Old Town. The lower floor exposition demonstrates the monstrous destruction of the Old City during World War II. At the top level there is an exhibition telling about the restoration of the historical center, begun in 1949, which, despite its official completion in 1954, actually lasted until the 80s of the XX century, until the reconstruction of the Royal Castle was completed. Visitors can see a fragment of the 14th century city wall in the lobby of the Center. The Monument Interpretation Center is also an information point and starting point for a fascinating walk through the authentic old cellars that survived during World War II. The museum is equipped with modern exhibition areas and a projection room, educational activities are carried out, meetings, book presentations and museum lessons for children are organized.
