Cathedral "Joy of All Who Mourn"
Belarus, Minsk

On April 26, 1991, on the fifth anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Belarusian capital, the laying of a memorial stone and the consecration of the construction site of the church-monument to the victims of Chernobyl took place. In July 1991, the parish was visited by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II. His Holiness Patriarch blessed the parishioners for the good construction of the temple complex and donated to the parish an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary “The Joy of All Who Sorrow.” This is the first Orthodox church in Minsk with an Orthodox church, which was built after 1914. The construction of the Cathedral of All Joy of All Who Sorrow lasted 14 years and was completed in 2008. This is one of the largest cathedrals in Belarus, the height of which together with the cross reaches 70 m. Due to its location on the highest point in Minsk, it is visible from all points of the city. The Cathedral of All Joy of Mourners with five helmet-shaped domes is built in the style of pseudo-Byzantine architecture with elements of northern Russian architecture, which can be traced in the ancient religious buildings of Novgorod the Great and Pskov.
