The Ankompagra National Forest Reserve is located in the United States of America, in the state of Colorado, on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. The reserve was founded by order of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905. The forest area of the Ankompagr is 3865 square kilometers; on its territory are the Ankompagr plateau and the northern part of the San Juan mountain range. The highest point - Ankompagr peak, has a height of 4365 meters above sea level and is the sixth highest mountain peak in Colorado. In the south, the Ankompagr Forest is bordered by the San Juan National Forest. The relief of the Ankompagr National Forest is diverse, there are deep gorges, coniferous forests, mountain lakes, rivers and streams, meadows and waterfalls. During the Gold Rush, gold hunters came here from all over America, now in the forest you can find many abandoned mines and ghost towns built and abandoned by prospectors. Ankompagr National Forest year-round attracts tourists and outdoor enthusiasts. In summer, you can go hiking along mountain and forest paths, arrange a halt near the lake with clear water, go climbing, horseback riding, fishing, canoeing.
