The untouched beauty of high mountains, green forests, picturesque mountain pastures and meadows surrounding the lake, gave rise to many legends and myths. The most famous of them is the legend of Zlatogor, a white chamois with golden horns that guarded the Garden of Eden, located on a high plateau above the valley of Lake Bohinj. Golden horns of chamois were a source of treasures hidden in the garden. Many tried to find treasures, in pursuit of them a hunter wounded Zlatogor. Beautiful roses rose from the drops of the animal’s blood, healing the chamois. In a rage, Zlatorog pushed the hunter into the abyss, and then destroyed the Garden of Eden. The mystery of the Triglav treasure has remained unsolved. On the shore of Lake Bohinj, in Ribcheva Laza, a monument to Zlatogor was erected.
