In 1837, a copper mine was opened in the southeast of Virgin Gord; it played an important role in the history of the island. Today, only picturesque ruins remain from the mine. In 2003, they were declared the British Virgin Islands National Park.
Grimes Graves is a large Neolithic flint ore complex in Norfolk, over 5,000 years old. Mines are funnel-shaped pits 12-13 meters deep. On an area of 37 hectares there are about 400 mines.
