Festival "Homo Narrans"
Greece, Sikinos
29.08.2024 - 31.08.2024

Little Islands Festival returns for the 6th year in Sikinos from 29 to 31 August under the title "Homo Narrans", creating a prominent space for the in situ exploration of Aegean narratives as they are traced in the tales, stories and myths of the island communities. Moving at the intersection of visual, performing and digital arts, the artists unravel the thread of narrative through the past and the future, the visible and the occult, the local and the trans-local, the traditional and the mythical, nature and culture.

With Istorima as a central partner and under the curatorial eye of LIF, "Istorima Archives" is being recreated in a new way as it unfolds in various points of interest on the island. A series of short doc films takes us to every corner of the Aegean, from Kythnos to Kasos, through the stories of their protagonists, while under the guidance of Haris Pagonidou and Spyros Lymperopoulos, we attend a three-day workshop on the art of Podcast, aiming to create an experimental audio documentary. This three-day journey could not miss Istorima's rich archive of oral narratives, which accompanies us in the view of the vast Cycladic horizon and the company of the starry sky. Visit the chapel of Agios Ioannis and listen to some of the audio stories awarded by the Thessaloniki Film Festival available throughout the event.

As the screenings proceed, Nikos Ziogas' "Memento", an elegy for Epirus that is lost and yet survives, and Stavros Psyllakis' "Debt", which celebrates friendship and human experience, will be accompanied by discussions with the filmmakers, paired with an open talk entitled "The creation of an anthropocentric documentary or what I describe describes me" by Stavros Psyllakis as an attempt to initiate the audience into the creative funnel of documentary films.

In a somewhat unorthodox shadow theatre, the performance "In the Shadow of Lucia" revives the heroes of the homonymous novel by Nikos Houliaras in a game of shadow, light, sound and reflection, whereas the new generation of artists of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki invests various locations of the island with innovative Mixed Reality artworks, offering a glimpse into the future of art and the new forms of storytelling.

Arriving from the Louvre and and available throughout the festival days, the virtual reality project "Champollion, the Egyptian" transfers us to the temple of Abu Simbel and the historical moment of its discovery by the father of Egyptology Jean-François Champollion, while for the tireless explorers the Project ESC: Explore, Scan, Connect will also be available during the festival, offering a unique way of discovering the island through QR maps and hybrid narratives.

A musical journey across Greece and a farewell party at the Central Square of Kastro will conclude a three-day event full of art and culture. Come and experience with us the magic of storytelling at the 6th Little Islands Festival and discover the stories that unite us!
