The Staro Rīga (Beaming Riga) light festival is a multi-day exhibition of urban objects that uses modern light and video technologies to transform Riga's landscape through illumination, at a time when Latvia celebrates its statehood.
The festival theme A Time of Light encompasses a unique experience. Combining the concepts of light and time, light art objects will lead festival visitors into a labyrinth of time and space exploration. Each light installation will be a newly discovered time-space, capable of change, evolution and the creation of a future message in the language of light art.
This is our time of light. Imants Ziedonis said in his Epiphanies: "For me, happiness only appears in time. Time is the number of movement, and happiness is the sense of one's own movement."
Interactive and experimental objects and multimedia performances in the urban environment will mark the international trend of light art away from screen-scale video projections. They will be replaced by site-specific spatial projections, 3D mappings of different scales according to the urban objects of the site and projections on the ground.
The light objects will cover the Old Town and the central part of the city, as well as take visitors outside the city center towards Pārdaugava.
