The festival takes place every July in the castle park and center of Viljandi. 

This is the strongest expression of a particular worldview that emerged in the early 1990s. 

This way of thinking values ​​tradition, heritage and local identity and tries to adapt spiritual values ​​collected over hundreds and thousands of years to modern lifestyles - all this in order to preserve traditions and thereby strengthen our national characteristics .

Viljandi Folk Music Festival has become one of the largest festivals of its kind in the Nordic and Baltic countries in recent years.
