San Marino's tourism sector achieved a new record in 2025, welcoming over 2.1 million visitors – the highest number since 2008 – and continued to expand its accommodation capacity and visitor spending.

According to the Statistics Office, the Republic received 2,110,236 tourists in 2025, an increase of 1.97 % compared with the previous year. The number of available beds rose to 2,193, a growth of 5.60 % driven by the expansion of the Welcome Hotel and the opening of five new bed‑and‑breakfast establishments.

Tourist consumption also accelerated. Transactions recorded by the San Marino Card (SMAC) in the historic centre showed a hospitality turnover of €19.7 million (+4.41 % YoY, +38.42 % versus 2019) and retail sales of €59.7 million (+3.30 % YoY, +37 % versus 2019). Overall SMAC spending approached €80 million, up 3.57 % on the year.

Foreign arrivals grew by 3.33 %. Italy remains the main source market with 52.64 % of guests, while Germany’s share rose to 8.10 % and other European markets (the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France) also showed positive trends. Visits from non‑European countries continued to increase, confirming the impact of promotional activities at international fairs and events such as Expo.

Tax revenues from tourism are projected to reach €404,289 for 2025, providing additional resources for the development of cultural and tourism infrastructure.

During the press conference, the Secretariat of State presented the 2026 event programme, which includes nearly 100 activities covering music, sport, cinema, theatre, outdoor recreation and cultural heritage. Highlights are the San Marino Song Contest (final on 6 March), Festival della Magia, Energika, Borgo Divino, San Marino Game Convention, Rapublic, the return of the Mille Miglia and Gran Premio Nuvolari rallies, and a series of concerts such as the Three Evenings of Emotions.

Other notable events are the SMIAF and San Marino Comics fairs, the Natale delle Meraviglie winter celebration, the urban‑art project Buone Nove, Saturdays of the Artisan, the Alberto Sordi International Award (14 March), and the comedy competition Locomix (18 April). Spiritual tourism will mark the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’s death.

Sporting highlights remain the International Tennis Championships, Rallylegend and the San Marino MotoGP Grand Prix, complemented by numerous local festivals in the Republic’s castles (Acquaviva, Chiesanuova, Serravalle, Faetano, Fiorentino, Montegiardino) and cultural initiatives such as Artistincasa and the traditional Living Nativity Scene.
