Albania aims to broaden tourism portfolio to boost year‑round visitor numbers

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports announced that foreign arrivals to Albania grew by 11 % in March, reaching a total of 609 363 visitors – an increase of 59 598 compared with the same month last year.

Minister Blendi Gonxhja highlighted that, despite global challenges, Albania is positioning itself as a secure and increasingly attractive destination throughout the year, thanks to its combination of natural landscapes, cultural sites, hospitality, cuisine and artistic offerings.

Positive dynamics were also recorded for the first quarter, with higher visitation rates at cultural and historic attractions, protected natural areas and medieval castles.

Authorities are working to further develop year‑round tourism by expanding the range of products in nature‑based activities, cultural programmes, historical tours, adventure sports and gastronomic experiences.

For example, Gjirokastra Castle welcomed 14 253 guests in March, a rise of 57.6 % over the previous year, reflecting growing interest in the UNESCO‑listed city’s heritage.
