The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reaffirms its commitment to the “New Thailand” vision, placing greater emphasis on high‑value tourism rather than sheer visitor numbers. The agency is implementing targeted actions to maintain competitiveness amid ongoing global economic uncertainty and to adjust the 2026 international tourism forecast.
According to TAT Governor Ms Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the strategy centres on enhancing premium experiences, expanding high‑quality market segments, and strengthening traveller confidence through the “Trusted Thailand” framework, which guarantees safety, quality and reliability. The global communication theme “Healing is the New Luxury” reflects the growing demand for wellbeing‑focused travel, positioning Thailand as a destination that offers both value and restorative experiences.
The approach builds on the solid performance of 2025, when tourism continued to support Thailand’s economic recovery despite external pressures such as geopolitical tensions, fluctuating energy prices and intensified regional competition. Although international arrivals have been gradually recovering, changing travel behaviours and more cautious spending underscore the need for quality‑driven growth and higher spend per trip.
In the first quarter of 2026 (1 January – 31 March), Thailand welcomed 9.31 million foreign visitors. China remained the top source market with 1.49 million arrivals, followed by Malaysia (960 000), Russia (726 000), India (626 000) and South Korea (412 000). Long‑haul markets—including the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States and Japan—continued to generate strong revenue, contributing to a more balanced and diversified visitor mix.
For the full year 2026, TAT projects total international arrivals of roughly 30–34 million, reflecting adjustments to current global conditions such as variable travel demand, limited air‑connectivity, energy price volatility and an anticipated easing of tensions in the Middle East within the next one to three months. Domestic travel is expected to reach about 206 million trips, with total tourism revenue estimated at approximately 2.58 trillion Baht.
