Milaidhoo Maldives unveils reimagined Ba’theli by the Reef: a return to Maldivian family‑style dining

Milaidhoo Maldives has launched a refreshed concept for its over‑water fine‑dining venue, Ba’theli by the Reef. The restaurant, set on traditional dhoni boats floating in the lagoon, now focuses on communal, family‑style service that mirrors how meals are shared in Maldivian homes.

The redesign was overseen by sous‑chef Nasreena “Natti” Ali, who comes from sister resort Dhigali Maldives, together with the local culinary team. Together they adapted the signature dishes and added new items rooted in Maldivian food culture.

Highlights of the new menu include:

  • Fihunu Bodu Ihi – grilled Maldivian lobster served with a garden‑grown curry.
  • Dhivehi Raha – a selection of miniature traditional desserts paired with screw‑pine ice cream made from the rare kashikeyo fruit.
  • Various rice, soup, bread, and salad dishes presented on a malaayfaiy, a classic wooden serving platter used for communal feasts.

The restaurant continues to draw inspiration from the Maldives’ historic role as a spice‑trade hub, incorporating flavors from Indonesia, India and Arabia. Guests can enjoy their meals aboard three dhoni boats while taking in lagoon views and sunset horizons, creating a dining experience that is both refined and authentically Maldivian.
