Albania sees sharp rise in tourism demand from major European markets

In January, Albania recorded a 15.1% increase in the number of guests staying in accommodation facilities compared with the same period last year.

Blendi Gonxhja, Albania’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, said the data demonstrate that the country is moving beyond a purely seasonal tourism model.

He highlighted that after a record 12.4 million visitors in 2025, the sector continued its growth in January 2026, with both visitor numbers and overnight stays rising noticeably.

Gonxhja pointed out that the strongest growth is coming from several key European source markets, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France and neighboring Kosovo.

The minister concluded that these trends confirm a shift toward a sustainable, year‑round tourism industry that can become a significant driver of the Albanian economy.
