The river cruise vessel AmaVerde, carrying roughly 150 guests—predominantly from the United States—docked in Vukovar, launching a specially arranged welcome programme.
Mayor Marijan Pavliček highlighted that this arrival is the inaugural one of an anticipated 557 cruise ships scheduled to call at the city this year, representing a 35 % rise compared with the previous season.
He noted an increasing number of day‑trip visitors, including families with children, and emphasized Vukovar’s growing reputation as a key tourism hub in continental Croatia.
Tourists are encouraged to explore local attractions such as the City Museum, the Museum of the Vučedol Culture, and the historic Vukovar Water Tower, which together enhance the city’s appeal.
Marina Sekulić, director of the Vukovar Tourist Board, recalled that river cruises have been part of the city’s calendar since 2001. She estimates that each vessel contributes about €10,000 to the local economy through guide services, excursions, souvenir sales and related activities.
According to Sekulić, river cruising is a strategic segment for Vukovar, boosting both the city’s visibility on the international cruising map and the broader promotion of Croatia as a destination.
