The coral reefs surrounding Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives are essential for the island’s marine biodiversity. To address growing threats such as bleaching and human impact, the resort has launched a coral restoration program aimed at revitalising its house reef.
Coral ecosystems are highly vulnerable to rising sea temperatures, bleaching events and other stressors, yet they underpin ocean health and protect coastlines.
As part of its sustainability agenda, the resort installed 25 coral frames, each seeded with fragments taken from naturally broken corals in the nearby lagoon and reef.
These fragments are expected to grow, merge and eventually form new coral colonies, rebuilding reef structure and providing habitat and feeding areas for a variety of marine species.
The project also serves to educate guests and staff about marine conservation, with ongoing monitoring reinforcing the resilience of the local reef and contributing to wider efforts to protect the Maldives’ underwater environment.
