Croatian MP warns Serbia’s travel advisory could strain bilateral relations

Jasna Vojnić, a member of the Croatian Parliament and president of the Croatian National Council in Serbia, expressed concern that Serbia’s newly introduced “traffic‑light” travel advisory, which places Croatia in the orange risk category, may create tension between the two neighboring states and cause unease among the Croat community residing in Serbia.

Vojnić acknowledged the sovereign right of any country to issue safety recommendations for its citizens, but emphasized that such measures send signals that can negatively affect the overall atmosphere of bilateral cooperation.

She called for any disagreements to be settled through dialogue and urged both governments to take steps that would reduce friction and maintain stable relations.

The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently launched a colour‑coded system to assess security risks for its travellers abroad. Under this scheme, Croatia received an orange rating, meaning travel is advised only when necessary.

Serbian officials argue that the advisory is a routine safety tool, while Croatian authorities, citing the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, described Croatia as one of the safest destinations in Europe and expressed regret over the Serbian assessment.
