Anantara Ubud Bali Resort has unveiled a new conservation initiative called Where Harmony Takes Flight. The programme aims to re‑introduce the critically endangered Bali Starling (Jalak Bali) back into its natural habitat in the jungles of Payangan, near the resort.
The first release took place on 11 March 2026, where a pair of hand‑raised birds were set free in front of invited guests. The event highlighted the resort’s commitment to sustainable tourism and the preservation of Bali’s cultural and ecological heritage.
The project was conceived by Made Warnata, Director of Spa, Wellness and Recreation at the resort. He collaborated with leading conservation bodies, including Yayasan KEHATI and the Indonesian wildlife authority BKSDA, to ensure the birds are bred and released responsibly.
Currently the resort cares for two pairs of Bali Starlings under expert supervision. A second pair is scheduled for release on 22 April 2026, coinciding with Earth Day, to support a gradual acclimatisation process and the species’ long‑term recovery.
“The Bali Starling symbolizes the natural beauty of our island and reminds us of what must be protected,” said Warnata. “Our initiative is built on respect, intention and strong partnerships with local custodians.”
The programme aligns with Anantara’s global sustainability platform, Dollar for Deeds, which enables guests to participate in conservation and community projects across the brand’s properties.
