Officials of Champasack Province are negotiating the launch of a direct air connection between Pakse and Hong Kong. The provincial party secretary, Alounxay Sounnalath, presented the initiative during the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on 6 January.
He emphasized that, despite the difficulties caused by the COVID‑19 pandemic, the province has maintained development momentum through collective effort. In the tourism sector, community‑based tourism has been expanded and the province has earned several ASEAN‑level awards.
In addition to the Hong Kong route, talks are ongoing for a Pakse‑Guangzhou flight, aiming to raise the province’s profile as a regional destination.
Education reforms have been completed by integrating former volunteer teachers into the civil service. Infrastructure projects have attracted more than LAK 70 billion (approximately USD 3.2 million) in public contributions for the construction of concrete roads and bridges.
Looking ahead, provincial authorities will focus on ensuring that party resolutions are implemented at the grassroots level and on achieving social goals such as raising living standards and eliminating the remaining poor households by 2026, in line with national targets.
